[News] 2PM Top Japan Weekly Charts With 'Winter Games' - 'We Sincerely Thank Everyone'


K-Pop idol group 2PM sits comfortably atop Japans's music charts after the release of "Winter Games" last week.

The 'beastly' six-member boy band released their seventh Japanese single "Winter Games" on October 16 and now find themselves at the top of both the Oricon and Tower Records weekly singles charts.

Since it dropped, the new single has dominated the real time and daily Oricon charts with the weekly rankings now in, 2PM have become the first Korean group to nab the number one spot on the weekly chart in months.

Oricon reported that the JYP Entertainment group sold 108,537 copies of "Winter Games" since its release and the anticipation for the new track prompted Japan's Tower Records store in Shibuya to make a special checkout area for fans looking to purchase the single album.

An exceptionally high number of Japanese fans flocked to the store after the single's release to get their copies making "Winter Games" this week's hottest seller.

The group members said through a representative, "We are very pleased and happy about the honor of being number one on Oricon and Tower Records's weekly charts after being number one on their daily charts. We will be a more diligent 2PM in accordance with all the love we have received. We sincerely thank everyone."

2PM have an outstanding track record in Japan. The group made their debut in the country in May 2011 with the song "Take Off" which immediately shot up the charts.

"Take Off" not only reached number one on the Oricon and Tower Records charts, but also earned 2PM the distinction of being the first Korean group to top the USEN J-Pop chart.

On May 29, 2PM made their Japanese comeback with the track "Give Me Love" and the song also performed well in the song rankings and is used as the theme to a popular television drama, Take Five.

Other Japanese-language singles like "I'm Your Man" and "Masquerade" have also appeared at number one, so it is no surprise that the guys' latest undertaking "Winter Games" has followed with an equally impressive showing.
