[News] 2AM Changmin, 2PM Jun.K, Wonder Girls Yeeun Will Take Their Musical Talents To Japan

The recent trend among K-Pop idols is starring in on-stage musicals, and three of JYP Entertainment's finest, Changmin, Jun.K, and Yeeun are taking it a step further. The three singers have been cast in the Three Musketeers, but they will soon go international and hit the stage in Japan.

Due to the tremendous popularity of the musical in Korea, with over 160,000 tickets sold in just about three years, the producers of the Three Musketeers have decided to bring the show overseas to Japan.

The three idols will perform in a total of 25 performances at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo from August 10 to 25.

The musical's promoter, Sem Company, has high hopes for the show which is full of many big name Korean stars. In addition to Changmin, Jun.K, and Yeeun, the Three Musketeers will also star actor Um Ki-joon from Dream High and Gentleman's Dignity singer-actor Kim Min-jong.

The theater seats over 2,000 people and is expected to sell out the performances because of the high star quality of the actors involved in the production.

Changmin's 2AM group mate Jo Kwon is also receiving high praise for his debut musical Jesus Christ Superstar, which is now playing in Seoul at the Charlotte Theater.

For his first musical role Jo Kwon is playing the part of King Herod, and he is the youngest actor ever to do so.

The 2AM balladeer is well liked for his friendly charisma on stage and bright sense of humor. He is also fairly androgynous making him an ideal choice for Herod, a character with a similar image.

Idol singers in Korea have long been tampering in the acting realm with many having starred in films, television dramas, and reality shows. But as musicals throughout the country gain more popularity, many young stars see them as a way to improve not just their singing abilities and acting skills, but also their on-stage personas.

Before the April 26 opening of Jesus Christ Superstar, Jo Kwon participated in a press conference along with the other actors in the musical. When asked why he had chosen to take part in the production he said that playing Herod was a good opportunity for him to express more of his talent in a new way.

Musical theater appears to be a nice way for these JYP stars to expand their talent and their fan base and we wish them all the best of luck!
